Adelaide Mahan Gallery

Alabama-born artist Adelaide Mahan (1872-1959) worked in many mediums but was best known for her oil and watercolor paintings of subjects she encountered during her life and travels, ranging from central Alabama landscapes to Honduran village scenes to stately portraits. Mahan undertook her formal artisitc training through programs in New York and Massachusetts during the early twentieth century, but lived the majority of her life in her hometown of Brierfield in Bibb County. Descendant Mike Mahan and his wife, Linda, are conservators of the Adelaide E. Mahan collection. Her correspondence and other written documents are on file with the Mahan Family papers in the Alabama Department of Archives and History in Montgomery.
